Dave Stewart, M.O.M. is a Superintendent with the Halton Regional Police Service and Commander of Special Investigative Services, overseeing organized crime investigations, intelligence, digital forensics, computer crime, analytics and specialized emergency response units.
With more than three decades of policing experience, Dave has held leadership roles across investigative, operational and strategic portfolios. He has led and sponsored modernization initiatives involving digital evidence management, analytics, emerging technologies and inter-agency collaboration. He currently serves as Co-Chair of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police Organized Crime Committee and is actively involved in provincial discussions related to technology-enabled policing and public safety innovation.
Dave was invested as a Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces in recognition of his contributions to policing and public safety. He is also a recipient of the King Charles III Coronation Medal and the Police Exemplary Service Medal. He holds degrees from McMaster University and Carleton University and has completed executive leadership education through the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management and the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police.
At this year's conference, Dave will share Halton's experience implementing facial recognition through a collaborative, multi-agency partnership, with a focus on governance, human accountability, public trust and the practical lessons learned in moving an emerging technology from concept into operations.
