The presentation explores the evolution of fingerprint identification in Romania, highlighting the transformation from traditional manual examinations performed with magnifying glasses and fingerprint cards to today's highly interconnected biometric ecosystem. It traces key milestones, including the implementation of the national Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) in 1996, the establishment of interoperability with European Union  AFIS - Prum networks in 2012, and the expansion of international biometric cooperation through connectivity with the FBI and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in 2022. Looking ahead, the presentation will examine Romania's ongoing transition toward a modern multi-biometric platform that integrates fingerprint and facial recognition technologies, enhancing forensic capabilities and cross-border law enforcement cooperation
