Aaron Matson is a Forensic Imaging Specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Forensic Sciences. Over the course of his career, he has worked extensively with a wide range of evidence in laboratory settings, during autopsies, and across numerous crime scenes, conducting diverse photographic and video examinations and analyses.
In documenting friction ridge detail, Aaron began with 4×5 and 8×10 view cameras and has had the luxury of participating in the transition to digital imaging and advanced image clarification techniques. His experience spans both traditional and modern imaging methodologies.
Aaron has served as an assessor for the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB). He currently serves as Vice Chair of the Photography Subcommittee for the Scientific Working Group on Digital Evidence (SWGDE) and as Chair of the Video/Imaging Technology and Analysis Photography Subcommittee for the Organization of Scientific Area Committees for Forensic Science (OSAC).
Passionate about education, Aaron enjoys sharing his knowledge and experience in all aspects of forensic imaging, both as a classroom instructor and as an expert witness in the courtroom. He recognizes that there are many valid approaches within forensic imaging and values the opportunity to learn from students and colleagues across the United States and internationally, collaborating on techniques within this continually evolving field.
